Director General of the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics of the Republic of Indonesia (BMKG), Dr. Andi Eka Sakya, officially open the training workshop of Fire Danger Rating System (FDRS) BMKG 2017, at the BMKG headquarter, on February 20th, 2017. This workshop is a joint collaboration between BMKG, Canada Natural Resources, and the Embassy of Canada

The five-day workshop features three experts from Natural Resources Canada – Canadian Forest Services who shared their expertise on the upgraded FDRS tools. There were also two Canadian companies present – TREK and FTS - who offered training during the workshop to share their expertise and illustrate concrete applications of the FDRS and the Fire Weather Index.

Canadian Ambassador for Indonesia, H.E. Peter MacArthur stated “We are hopeful that through this workshop and training, Canada can contribute a critical piece to Indonesia’s fire management system, as an important step in environmental protection and climate change prevention and mitigation.”

Fire management experts TREK Wildland Services … will train fire commanders on the practical application of ICS including early detection and rapid response, with the aim of increasing the ability to prevent and fight fires as early as possible.
